Water Main Replacement Construction Now Underway

Date posted

Below is a message from the City of Vancouver about the current construction taking place along Pender Street:

"Improving Vancouver’s Infrastructure Pender Street Water Main Replacement" July 2015 – Summer 2016

Project Overview
City of Vancouver construction crews will begin work to upgrade the City’s 67- to 90-year-old sewage pipes that lie underneath Pender Street. Once replaced, the pipes are expected to serve the neighbourhood for another 100 years.

Vancouver has 1,484 km of water mains. These pipes bring fresh, drinkable water to your homes and businesses from the North Shore Mountains. From 2015-2018, we plan to replace 30-35 km of water main in order to ensure that our system stays in good condition.

Businesses are open
Access to businesses and services will be maintained throughout construction.

What to expect during construction
Construction will move progressively block-by-block. Each block may be impacted for up to two months. The City will minimize disruption to the area so that daily routines will not be adversely impacted. Crews will work primarily from Monday to Friday between the hours of 7 am and 5 pm.
