Windows in Chinatown were decorated by Langara students to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Seasonal Window Display Contest

Date posted

The Vancouver Chinatown BIA Society has partnered with the City of Vancouver and students of Langara College's Faculty of Design Formulation to put forth the Chinatown "Seasonal Window Display Contest". These Langara design students have decorated stores on the zero to 100 East Pender block. In exchange for giving their window space to these students, store owners have enhanced the festive spirit of their stores as well as attract customers for the holiday season. The announcement of the contest garnered great response from store owners, but because there are only limited students available to participate, out of 10 businesses who applied only 6 were selected to participate: Cathay Importers (104 E. Pender Street), Han Fung Arts (Rustic China) (41 E. Pender St.), Ming Wo Ltd (23 E. Pender St.)., New Mitzie's Restaurant (179 East Pender St), OCHI Fashion (121 E. Pender St.) and Peking Lounge (83 E. Pender St.).

Selected stores work with 3 to 4 design students to create window displays that incorporate beautiful visually stimulating designs that inform visitors about the store's products and its
brand image. The students responsible for the corresponding stores were:

Cathay Importers: Kalie Bredo (Team Leader), Ashley Sperling, and Teresa Che
Han Fung: Shaina Robershaw (Team Leader), Ayla Camilla Pena, Tracy Klasse
Ming Wo: Sharon Elliott (Team Leader), Mimi Chen, Rumana Zahi
New Mitzie's: Kristine Valenzuela (Team Leader), Yoshimi Kinugasa, Amanda Siegmann

The task of voting for this Chinatown "Seasonal Window Display Contest" has been handed to the store owners of 0-100 East Pender Street. Every store has been granted one vote to choose their favourite window display.
