Youth Talent Showdown 2010 | Dance Edition


Youth Talent Showdown 2010 (hereinafter called "Contest"), is organized by the Vancouver Chinatown BIA Society (VCBIA), Chinatown Next, and the City of Vancouver (hereinafter called "the Organizers"). This is an opportunity for talented youths (hereinafter called "Contestants") to gain exposure and experience in live performance.

A. Eligibility

  • Contest is open to any legal resident of British Columbia between the ages of 13 and 23 on August 14, 2010.
  • A performance must not be longer than five minutes. Any performance not suitable for a family audience and/or contains profane language, swearing, or any suggestive lyrics or actions, will be disqualified. Acts using machetes, knives, fire, and/or pyrotechnics, cannot enter. Only limited audio/visual equipment is available. Contestants are responsible for providing all other equipment needed.
  • Completed application forms and a non-refundable fee of CAD$20 must be received by VCBIA by the application deadline.

B. Procedures

Step I: Application (by June 30, 2010, 5PM)
  • The Application Form must be completed and signed by the Contestant and the Contestant's Legal Guardian/Parent if Contestant is under 19.
  • Completed Application Form and a non-refundable application fee of CAD$20 must be submitted by 5PM, June 26, via mail or in person to: Vancouver Chinatown BIA Society 508 Taylor Street, Vancouver, BC V6B 6M4
Step II: Auditions (July 17, 2010)
  • All received applications will be contacted for an assigned audition time. Contestants must bring valid proof of age and photo identification (e.g. GoCard, Student I.D. Card, etc.) to the Auditions.
Step III: Preliminaries (July 31, 2010)
  • Accepted Contestants are required to perform in the same manner as they did in the Auditions.
  • Top Ten Finalists will be selected at the Preliminaries on Saturday, July 31, on stage at location to be determined.
Step IV: Rehearsal
  • Top ten finalists are required to attend a show rehearsal. Date and time will be announced at the Auditions.
Step V: Finals (August 15, 2010)
  • The Ten Finalists may choose to perform a different piece than was performed in the Preliminaries.
  • Finals will be held on Sunday, August 15, on stage at the 11th Vancouver Chinatown Festival. A panel of judges will select THREE WINNERS from the Ten Finalists.

C. Judging

  • Members of the Judging Panel will be selected at the sole and absolute discretion of VCBIA.
  • Contestants will be judged on i) Quality of Performance; ii) Stage Presence; and iii) Presentation of Dress/Costume.
  • Judges will break all ties.
  • Score sheets will not be available for review.
  • All decisions of the judges are final.

D. Prizes

  • In the event the winner is a group, any cash and prizes won by the group will be split amongst all members of the winning group.
  • Non-cash prizes awarded to contestants may not be sold and are not redeemable for cash.
  • The top three honours will be selected among these finalists on August 2010 by a judging panel consisting of local media partners, based on the quality of the performance, stage presence, and appropriateness of costume. Contestants can also win the People's Choice Award for being the most popular Youth Talent Showdown act.

White Belt received a trophy, $200 cash prize, $200 gift from Ki Jewels Co.
People's Choice Award
Zaynah Sharif received $100 cash prize and gifts from Ki Jewels Co.
