Remembrance Day in
Chinatown
Remembrance Day,
formerly called Armistice Day, commemorates Canadians who
died in all wars that Canada participated in since Confederation
in 1867.
The Chinatown Memorial Square was built to recognize two groups
of Chinese that helped change Canadian history. The building
of the railway was a condition for B. C. to join the rest
of Canada. The Chinese Canadian veterans came back from the
Second World War to help gain Canadian citizenship and to
obtain the franchise (the right to vote).
