The chosen center- piece for the historical Alley memorial to commemorate Chinese history in Vancouver is a replica of a West Han Dynasty Bell unearthed in Guangzhou in 1983 near the site of the China Hotel.

The bell was a gift from the City of Guangzhou to the City of Vancouver, in honor of the 15th anniversary of the twinning of the two cities. Weighing just under a ton, the bell will hang from 2 cross beams supported by 4 columns. Three bronze bands on the top of the bell will bear the names of early settlers and current sponsors of this project.
