China Gate

China Gate is part of the China Pavilion at Expo 86 in Vancouver. It was donated to City of Vancouver after the end of the exhibition. City of Vancouver placed it in Chinatown, at the front of the Chinese Cultural Centre under the care of the Chinatown community. However, the Gate was designed as a tempory building in 1986 and could not withstand the weather. Finally, it was demolish in 2001.

The Chinese Community had continuous to seek for support in restoring the China Gate. Eventually, Guangzhou donates a new Gate to Chinatown. Together with the unveiling of the new Gate and the joint celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Sister City Agreement between Vancouver and Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China, and recognizing the 10th anniversary of the twinning of the Province of British Columbia and China's Guangdong Province, the new China Gate is erected again in its previous location on October, 22 nd , 2005.
